Job description

Overview

Dunbarton Corporation is seeking a Process Engineer to join our team who is responsible for developing and enhancing manufacturing systems and processes, managing equipment selection and integration, and leading cross-functional projects to ensure quality, efficiency, and on-schedule production.

Responsibilities
  • Integrate, optimize, and maintain automated and robotic systems used in steel manufacturing, including robotic welding, material handling, painting, PLC-controlled equipment, and sensor-based inspection systems
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures by developing, implementing, and enforcing operational safety policies
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness using knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, LEAN methods, and industrial engineering principles
  • Diagnose equipment issues, perform root cause analysis using statistical methods, and recommend corrective actions, design changes, or process adjustments to improve reliability and OEE
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, maintenance, tooling, and related operations across the organization
  • Maintain and update equipment, product, and part drawings and ensure proper tolerances meet customer and quality requirements
  • Develop, modify, and maintain machine operating programs, PLC code, and supporting software for production equipment
  • Manage the design, procurement, installation, modification, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment, including vendor coordination for design, maintenance, relocation, and repair
  • Train personnel on equipment operation, maintenance, die preparation, production methods, and relevant engineering processes
  • Conduct industrial engineering activities such as time studies, functional testing, and efficiency evaluations to support continuous improvement
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings; design parts, tools, and products using CAD/CAM software, including SolidWorks
  • Perform research, testing, and analysis to evaluate the feasibility, performance, and reliability of equipment, components, and systems
  • Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements, including nights and weekends
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of industrial robotics systems (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa)
  • Knowledge of PLC programming languages (ladder logic, structured text)
  • Skill in the use of computer hardware and software, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs
  • Skill in the use of various manual and power tools and equipment used in steel fabrication
  • Skill in identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts
  • Skill in providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained or used
  • Ability to think creatively and use alternate thinking to develop new ideas for and answer work-related problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working in a manufacturing environment or similar location
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in equipment or process design and project management
  • Experience with robotic automation, paint system, or control systems in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • LEAN, 6S, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma training

Note: At the discretion of the hiring manager and/or the Human Resources Manager an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Moves, lifts, carries, and places objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Works in varying temperature conditions. Occasionally will work in high, precarious places and occasionally is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
