Job summary

Tremco Construction Products Group (CPG), part of RPM International, seeks an Engineer to join the team in Ohio. The role blends safety leadership, process control, and Lean culture with hands-on floor work to improve quality and productivity across manufacturing lines.

The ideal candidate has a strong engineering background, troubleshooting experience, and a focus on preventing defects while driving continuous improvement through standard work and material handling.

Qualifications

• Six months or more of PLC, Mechanical, and/or Electrical troubleshooting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• Packaging experience or automation equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety initiatives with shift supervisors and resolve safety issues.
• Execute scheduled PHAs and JSAs on the floor.
• Proactively monitor area and remediate safety concerns.
• Use DAKOTA software for EH&S reporting and compliance.
• Develop and execute standard work activities.
• Drive Lean productivity and eliminate waste.
• Maximize equipment efficiency and quality of output.
• Identify root causes of customer complaints and prevent recurrence.
• Coach operators on quality specifications and process parameters.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Engineer's role is viewed as an extension of management. Responsibilities are broad and include safety, product quality, process control, productivity improvement, and development of a LEAN culture. The Engineer is expected to spend a significant amount of time on the floor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Safety
• Assume a leadership position at the facility in partnership with the shift supervisors. Activities include resolution and communication regarding safety issues.
• Execute on scheduled PHA's and JSA's.
• Proactively monitor area and remediate potential safety issues.
• Use DAKOTA software as a tool for compliance and environmental, health and safety. Use the tool to report incidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
• LEAN Culture
• Develop and execute upon "standard work" activities.
• Assume responsibility for assigned activities on the Engineering Tier and other accountability boards.
• Conduct "GEMBA Walks" daily. Use walks as the primary means of education and communication of expectations.
• Improve productivity through elimination of non-value-added activities. Apply Engineering principles and methodologies to improve productivity and eliminate waste.
• Product Quality
• Work to maximize equipment efficiency and quality for output.
• Member of the facility QIC. Ensure identification of root cause and subsequent prevention of future customer complaints.
• Assist in the training of operators with a focus on quality critical product specifications and process parameters.
• Capable of equipment troubleshooting and process design.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree from a 4 or 5-year college or university.

B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering.

EXPERIENCE

Six months or more of PLC, Mechanical, and/or Electrical troubleshooting experience and/or training.

Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, or Controls Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

Packaging experience or automation equipment preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Six Sigma Green Belt is a plus.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Understanding process variance and the resultant effects on Quality.
• Knowledge of applied statistics.
• Ability to perform problem analysis utilizing problem‑solving methodology.
• Troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude
