Job Description
Job Description Insight Global is seeking a Process Engineer for a top robotic automation and manufacturing client in Metro Detroit. This individual will join a high-volume engineering environment supporting robotic automation projects from process planning through integration and implementation. The Process Engineer will develop and optimize automated processes, conduct risk assessments and FMEAs, create device lists and technical specifications, analyze cycle timing, and collaborate closely with mechanical, controls, simulation, purchasing, and project-management teams. The ideal candidate has meaningful robotic automation or system-integration experience and can step into active projects with minimal ramp-up while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The role also encompasses technical planning, mechanical and pneumatic requirements, design reviews, equipment specifications, safety risk assessments, testing/debugging, and customer buyoff.
Day-to-Day
- Join active automation projects and own process-engineering deliverables from planning through implementation
- Develop and optimize the manufacturing/automation process while ensuring the system meets customer requirements
- Complete project risk assessments and FMEAs and help define appropriate safety requirements
- Develop device lists covering sensors, switches, cylinders, and other equipment required by controls engineering
- Partner with simulation engineers on event/cycle timing to determine how long automated processes will take
- Write equipment and system specifications, then work with purchasing to obtain quotes and source required equipment
- Review customer specifications and maintain accurate project engineering documentation
- Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams and, depending on project size, work under a Senior Process Engineer
- Support equipment layouts, robot reach/payload considerations, cycle-time analysis, mechanical/pneumatic component sizing, and sequence of operations as needed
- Participate in design reviews, project kickoffs, equipment integration, testing/debug, and customer buyoff activities
- Use tools including Microsoft Office, with exposure to systems such as Oracle and ADP based on the intake
- Move between projects as business demands change. With the group operating at high capacity, this person needs to be comfortable jumping into whichever project requires support
