Job summary

J.D. Irving, Limited's sawmill is seeking a process improvement engineer to identify, develop, and implement opportunities for efficiency in processes, products, and production.

You will refine standards, structures, systems, and equipment to boost performance and ensure safety, quality, and cost targets are met. In this role you will apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, coordinate with Plant, Maintenance and Production managers, lead CAPEX projects, and coach employees across all levels to

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 3-5 years in industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of wood products manufacturing and heavy mill machinery.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and process improvement.
• Ability to train, coach, and develop employees.
• Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to work across all organizational levels.
• Lean Yellow or Black Belt preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives within the mill.
• Develop, implement, and adjust operational standards, systems, and equipment.
• Ensure efficiency and effectiveness of all improvement efforts.
• Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
• Support and oversee 5S initiatives, failure analysis, results management, and safety activities.
• Coordinate and manage CAPEX projects, including data compilation and analysis.
• Assist location management with annual action planning and policies administration.
• Coach and train employees on improvement methodologies and tools.
• Act as a change agent, motivating employees at all levels.

• Previous experience in wood product manufacturing is desired.
• Demonstrated knowledge of business systems and complex technical and engineering processes.
• Proven ability to train, coach, and develop employees.
• Strong presentation, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented, results-driven, and capable of working effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
