Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Process Development Associate Scientist to advance cell culture and purification processes for our late-stage pipeline. You will develop and transfer processes to manufacturing, while conducting experiments across scales to improve yields and robustness.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of Process Development experience OR Associate’s with 4+ years OR high school with 6 years of Process Development experience.
  • Hands-on lab experience in cell culture or protein purification.
  • Attention to details and critical thinking.
  • Experience in Design of Experiments and statistics is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and strong organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cell culture and purification processes for Amgen’s late-stage pipeline.
  • Execute mammalian cell culture experiments at different scales (shake flasks to bioreactors).
  • Perform purification experiments (filtration and chromatography) at bench and pilot scale.
  • Document experimental data in lab notebooks and present results to team.
  • Author technical reports to support regulatory filings.
  • Contribute to technology development projects for reliability and efficiency improvements.

Process Development Associate Scientist

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be responsible for developing cell culture and purification manufacturing processes for Amgen’s late-stage pipeline.

Scope of work includes developing cell culture and purification processes for recombinant proteins to improve the production yields, evaluating process robustness through process characterization, transferring processes to manufacturing, and conducting other relevant experiments such as facility fit and raw material evaluation.

  • Work in a team environment to contribute to drug substance process development.
  • Execute mammalian cell culture experiments at different scales in shake flasks and bioreactors.
  • Execute purification experiments, mainly filtration and chromatography, at bench and pilot scale as needed.
  • Document experimental data in lab notebooks.
  • Analyze the data and present to the team.
  • Author technical reports and support regulatory filing as needed.
  • Contribute to technology development projects to seek continuous improvement in reliability and efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of Process Development experience OR Associate’s degree and 4 years of Process Development experience OR High school diploma / GED and 6 years of Process Development experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant hands-on lab experience in cell culture or protein purification.
  • Attention to details and critical thinking ability.
  • Experience in Design of Experiments and statistical analysis is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and strong organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
