Job summary

Reliable Controls Corporation in Salt Lake City, Utah, is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to join our industrial automation team. You will design and troubleshoot process control systems, develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC logic, and support commissioning activities at mining, processing, gas, and related facilities.

Travel up to 80% for on-site projects, with a rotating schedule as described.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 24 months in Electrical, Process Controls, Industrial Automation, Field Testing, or related occupation.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must design and troubleshoot process control systems, instrumentations, and PLC/HMI hardware/software.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for controls engineering and commissioning projects at industrial facilities such as processing plants, gas compression facilities, mining facilities, and other related projects.
• Design and review instrumentation and automation systems for heavy industrial plants.
• Create and implement standards to improve process efficiency.
• Facilitate collaboration among team members per project.
• Engineer and design network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control depictions, Controls Narrative, and Cause & Effect.
• Design process control systems and strategies.
• Design, implement, and optimize process network infrastructure and automation processes.
• Program and configure PLC/HMI/DCS/SCADA systems.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process controls.
• Provide hands-on support for commissioning and start-up activities.

Duties

• Provide engineering support for controls engineering and commissioning projects at industrial facilities such as processing plants, gas compression facilities, mining facilities, and other related types of projects.
• Design and review instrumentation and automation systems associated with heavy industrial plants.
• Create and implement standards and strategies to improve process efficiency.
• Facilitate collaboration among team members on a per‑project basis.
• Engineer and design network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control depictions, Controls Narrative, and Cause & Effect.
• Design process control systems and strategies.
• Design, implement, and optimize process network infrastructure and automation processes through modern process control systems.
• Program and configure PLC/HMI/DCS/SCADA systems.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process controls.
• Provide hands‑on support for commissioning and start‑up activities.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Travel & Work Schedule

• Requires up to 80% travel to remote domestic and international locations for on‑site project assignments.
• Commitment to rotational work schedule during projects (e.g., 3 weeks on/1 week off, 4 weeks on/1–2 weeks off, 4 weeks on/2 weeks off, or 8 weeks on/2 weeks off).

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent).
• Experience: Minimum 24 months in Electrical, Process Controls, Industrial Automation, Field Testing, or a related occupation.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must have proven regular attendance.
• Must demonstrate ability to design and troubleshoot process control systems, engineer and test electrical instrumentation and automation systems, and program PLC/HMI hardware/software.
• Must possess experience developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC logic.
• Must have knowledge of electronic engineering, Microsoft Office, PLC ladder logic, digital/sequential logic programming, closed‑loop control systems, engineering principles, and procedures.
• Must be proficient in automation (PLC/DCS) and electrical system design, diagnosis, and operation.
• Must know the National Electrical Code and API codes applied to electrical installations.
• Must commit to safety practices.
