We are seeking a Process Controls Engineer to support the reliability, operation, and continuous improvement of industrial process control systems. This role partners closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project teams to optimize automation systems, implement new technologies, improve system performance, and support capital projects.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial controls, instrumentation, PLC/HMI systems, SCADA, and process automation, along with a passion for troubleshooting, cybersecurity, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, specify, and support instrumentation and control systems for industrial processes.
- Develop and improve control strategies, process documentation, and operating sequences.
- Support the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and system integrators during the design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and control systems.
- Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), site commissioning, loop checks, and startup activities.
- Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance personnel.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation, control logic, PLC programming, HMI interfaces, and process automation issues.
- Coordinate and oversee third-party automation and controls contractors on assigned projects.
- Support industrial network infrastructure, control system asset management, and historian systems.
- Assist in developing and maintaining OT cybersecurity best practices, including system monitoring, patch management, vulnerability assessments, and risk mitigation.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements that enhance reliability, safety, and efficiency.
- Support electrical infrastructure and automation projects as needed.
- Perform other related duties in support of plant operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of five years of experience supporting industrial automation, controls, or process engineering in a manufacturing, industrial, chemical, energy, or similar environment.
- Working knowledge of:
- PLC programming and troubleshooting
- SCADA and HMI systems
- Industrial instrumentation, analyzers, flow measurement, and control valves
- Ladder logic and electrical/control schematics
- Instrument calibration and troubleshooting
- Alarm management and process optimization
- Industrial networking and OT cybersecurity principles
- Data historians and process data analysis
- Ability to translate operational requirements into effective control strategies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
- Primarily an onsite position supporting industrial operations.
- Regular exposure to manufacturing or process plant environments.
- Ability to wear required PPE and safely work around industrial equipment.
- Occasional travel may be required for project support, training, or multiple facility locations.
- Flexibility to work additional hours during plant outages, startups, or critical projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience supporting industrial control system cybersecurity initiatives.
- Experience leading automation or capital improvement projects.
- Familiarity with electrical distribution systems within industrial facilities.
