Qualifications

  • 5+ years in process automation and instrumentation engineering.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science in Process Technology.
  • 12+ years of controls/instrumentation experience with an associate degree.

Position: Process Controls Engineer (hybrid, LaPorte, TX)

This role is part of Air Products' Americas Operations Central Engineering - HyCO Process Controls team. Travel is mostly local within Houston, with occasional travel (~10%) to other North American locations. We offer flexible hybrid remote/on-site work arrangements.

Responsibilities
  • Provide process control systems engineering support for HyCO production facilities in Houston.
  • Collaborate with operating facilities as the automation system expert.
  • Support control system troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and improvement projects related to DCS & SIS systems.
  • Manage long-term planning, programming, maintenance, and migration of control systems.
  • Address instrumentation and automation obsolescence issues.
  • Implement changes to control logic, HMI, and databases; document these changes.
  • Support and lead instrument troubleshooting with local I&E technicians.
  • Contribute to asset optimization, plant reliability, cybersecurity, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Adhere to safety organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in process automation and instrumentation engineering.
  • Or a Bachelor of Science in Process Technology with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Or an associate degree/military training with 12+ years of controls/instrumentation experience.

Additional requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship.
Desired Skills
  • Hands-on experience with control systems (DCS/PLC), especially Siemens PCS7.
  • Knowledge of field instrumentation, valves, transmitters, and measurement concepts (level, temperature, pressure, flow).
  • Basic understanding of computer networks and cybersecurity in industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems related to Mechanical Integrity.
  • Self-motivated with strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to present complex issues clearly to diverse audiences.
