Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Process Controls Engineer for the Lima Refinery to ensure DCS regulatory and supervisory controls, operator graphics, alarm systems, and PI are implemented per refinery standards for safe operation.

The role involves problem solving with Operations and Process Engineering, contributing to budget and schedule adherence, and ensuring compliance with PSM and control schemes. 1+ year refinery experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 1+ year of direct refinery Process Controls experience or related experience.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US.
  • MBA, PMP Certification, or Professional Engineer License considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide new and maintain existing DCS control scheme designs, configurations and operator graphics.
  • Participate in Design Review, P&ID Reviews, MOC, HAZOP, and LOPA processes.
  • Provide Project Engineering support per site standards for maintainability and reliability.
  • Develop control schemes that are easy to operate and maintain for the Area Business Team.
  • Specify and procure DCS hardware in accordance with site standards.

About this opportunity:

Cenovus Energy is seeking a new Process Controls Engineer for the Lima Refinery with a strong attention to detail, ability to learn, and the flexibility to adjust to changes based on plant priorities. The role will ensure that DCS Regulatory/Supervisory Controls, Operator Graphics, Alarm System, Process Historian and PI are designed and implemented in accordance with refinery standards to maintain, optimize and continue safe operation. This position will also manage Budget Adherence, Schedule Adherence, PSM compliance, Alarm Performance and Control Scheme Implementation. The Process Controls Engineer's level of problem solving will vary with tenure & maturity in the position. This role requires complex problem solving skills to assist Operations and Process Engineering in diagnosing and developing solutions to refinery operational issues.

What you’ll do:
  • Provide new and maintain existing DCS control scheme designs, control configurations, alarm configurations and operator graphics that meet refinery guidelines and provide improved reliability/safety for ongoing plant operations.
  • Participate in Design Review, P&ID’s Review, Engineering Milestone Review, MOC, Investigation, Hazard & Operability (HAZOP) Study, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) processes.
  • Provide Project Engineering support in accordance with sites standards and practices and provide ease of maintenance and increased reliability to the refinery.
  • Develop control schemes in accordance with site standards that allow for ease of use for operations and maintainability and reliably for the Area Business Team Process Controls Engineers.
  • Specify and procure DCS Hardware in accordance with site standard hardware.
Who you are:
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 1+ year of direct refinery Process Controls experience or other closely related experience
  • Knowledge of job or industry specific practices or processes; critical/unique skills/knowledge
  • Proficient technical skills and knowledge of refinery operations, process flows, coordination, and systems
  • MBA, PMP Certification, or Professional Engineer License considered an asset
