Responsibilities

  • Software development across languages and platforms.
  • Maintain hardware and software.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain automation systems.
  • Modify automation to support new products and processes.
  • Address production and system reliability issues.
  • Model mill processes (chemical, metallurgical, mechanical).
  • Administer OS and relational databases on workstations/servers.
  • Work with vision systems, thermal imaging, RFID/barcode, X-ray/gauging systems.
  • Collaborate with networking and data transmission teams.
  • Coordinate with production and vendors.

As a Process Control Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern's education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platforms
  • Maintenance of computer hardware and software
  • Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system
  • Modifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processes
  • Address issues that may impact production or system reliability
  • Process modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical nature
  • Administration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and servers
  • Work with complex measurement systems, such as:
    • Vision systems for product quality
    • Thermal imaging temperature measurements
    • RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification
    • X-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systems
  • Work with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces
  • Close coordination with a production department
  • Respond to routine and emergency requests
  • Manage local area project, task, and priority lists
  • Make recommendations for system and process improvements
  • Work with vendors on products and performance issues
  • Coordinating with Research and Development and other staff departments
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related technical degree
  • Completion of sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
