POSITION SUMMARY:
Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery is seeking an on-site Process Control Engineer to provide essential project engineering support for capital projects, from initial planning through commissioning. This role will serve as the primary point of accountability for process control strategy and systems design. The successful candidate will ensure that all implemented process control solutions and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) designs are reliable, consistent, and adhere to both Marathon and industry standards.


The ideal candidate for this position is a process control engineer with experience in capital projects. We are looking for someone who is energetic, driven, and adaptable with strong communication skills. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellent planning and organizational abilities along with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participates in capital project development activities including control and instrument technology selection, complex control loop, HMI and operator interface, and interlock design.
• Responsible for interfacing between project team and site process control personnel for all assigned projects.
• Manage and supervise automation providers and vendors (DCS, SIS, PLC, Compressor controls) supporting assigned projects.
• Participate in project PSM activities: MOC, PHA/HAZOP/LOPA, What if, Alarm Rationalization, etc.
• Participate in hardware and software Factory Acceptance Test, Integrated FAT, Site Acceptance/Integration Test and site commissioning.
• Responsible for delivering process control narrative documentation, DCS and SIS I/O assignment, configuring regulatory controls, alarms, and HMI graphics on a DCS, and configuring logic in SIS.
• Responsible for the review and approval of SIS documentation (SRS, C&E, testing documents, drawings, etc.) to ensure Marathon documentation standards and site specific practices are being followed. Also responsible for completing the SIS Functional Safety Assessment (FSA) per ISA 84 requirements for modified or new SIS.
• Participate in the 24/7 on-call site support rotation (4 weeks a year on average).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum (Required) Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred). Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date.
• Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of ten years of experience in refining or petrochemical industry.
• Minimum of five years of process control experience.
• Experience configuring any of the following DCS platforms: Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, or ABB.
• Experience configuring any of the following SIS platforms: DeltaV SIS, Triconex, or HIMA.
• Experience configuring any of the following PLC brands: Allen-Bradley or Modicon.
