Job summary

O-i Glass is seeking an experienced electrical controls engineer for its Bowling Green, KY facility. You will design, develop, and maintain control systems to drive safety, quality, and performance in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities include PID/PLC/HMI management, risk analysis, and collaboration with MAGMA and IT teams. Strong Siemens/Allen-Bradley experience and 13.8kV switchgear knowledge are required.

  • Monitor processes with contractors and vendors to improve electrical and control systems

  • Lead problem solving using data analytics (TrendMiner, IBA preferred)
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, ANSI/ISA95, S88
  • Troubleshoot and program PLCs; design HMI interfaces (Siemens/Allen-Bradley; TIA Portal, Studio 5000)
  • Lead medium voltage switchgear work; 13.8kV experience
  • Train electrical teammates on NFPA 70E and electrical safety

About the Role

In this position you will be an integral part of leading a transformation of O-I and the glass industry through innovative, sustainable, and disruptive new technologies. In this position, you will have the opportunity to design, develop, and maintain controls systems that drive safety, quality, and performance for O-I's newest glass container manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, KY. You will use your strong analytical skills to identify problems and errors in process control systems and develop creative solutions to complex problems related to process controls. Additionally, you will collaborate with technical experts within MAGMA and other global teams to advance our newest technologies. You will be an integral part of modeling and reinforcing our culture that engages and empowers all our teammates around safety, accountability, and trust to produce world‑class results.

Responsibilities
  • Work with multiple levels of operations‑based teammates and functional leaders to drive safety, quality, productivity and continuous improvement of the line.
  • Partner with all teammates including contractors and vendors to monitor manufacturing processes and supporting functions to improve the electrical and control systems of the line.
  • Manage all PID's, PLC programs, and HMI programs across all production lines and processes while working in close collaboration with regional and global MAGMA resources (engineering and IT).
  • Lead and collaborate in problem solving activities and root cause identification using process data analytic tools. (Trendminer and IBA preferred)
  • Ensure compliance in safety, quality, operations, and NFPA 70E, ANSI/ISA95, S88.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and programming PLCs and designing HMI interfaces. Siemens and Allen Bradley experience required. (TIA Portal, Studio 5000)
  • Lead and organize work involving medium voltage switchgear. 13.8kV experience required.
  • Lead the training of all electrical competent teammates on NFPA 70E and electrical safety.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of programming languages C++, Python & PLC programming languages, such as Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, and Structured Text.
  • Understanding of process control systems including various types of sensors, actuators, and other components.
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems and understand PLC hardware such as I/O modules and processors.
  • Proficiency of HMI software such as WinCC, FactoryTalk, or Ignition. Visual Basic programming experience preferred.
  • Experience integrating PLC and HMI systems with other control systems such as SCADA and DCS.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or similar educational field/work experience.
  • Good communicator with strong ability to be proactive and show initiative; hands‑on approach to drive and execute transformational change; courage to challenge the status quo.
  • 5+ years’ work experience in total plant systems and electrical controls.
  • Have experience in 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Understand the complexity of maintaining compliance with global initiatives and standards.
  • Good team player.

Travel Requirements

Up to 20% Domestic and international travel until start‑up of factory in 2024 and up to 10% thereafter.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position is between $72,900 to $102,800 + 10% pay‑for‑performance quarterly incentive. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job‑related factors permitted by law.
