Responsibilities

• Maintain the integrity, reliability, and performance of process control systems, plant historian, networks, and related components.
• Provide rotating 24x7 on-call support for control system hardware, software, instrumentation, and network issues.
• Troubleshoot control system processors, I/O subsystems, HMIs, loops, graphics, field instruments, valves, motors, and network infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain control system applications, interfaces, historian integrations, and process improvements.
• Support control system upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
• Administer process control networks, including security, backups, data protection, firewalls, servers, and software updates.
• Test, troubleshoot, and validate control system implementations, interfaces, version changes, and system functionality.

Job Summary

The Process Control Engineer supports the design, maintenance, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems, with a focus on safety, quality, cost efficiency, and process reliability. Apply engineering principles and technical knowledge to troubleshoot control systems, support system improvements, maintain system reliability, and assist with safe implementation of control system changes.

Essential Functions

Systems Performance & Reliability

• Maintain the integrity, reliability, and performance of process control systems, plant historian, networks, and related system components
• Provide rotating 24x7 on-call support for control system hardware, software, instrumentation, and network issues
• Troubleshoot control system processors, I/O subsystems, HMIs, loops, graphics, field instruments, valves, motors, and network infrastructure
• Manage historian configurations and data collection parameters to support system performance and data availability
• Support system upgrades, maintenance activities, backups, and reliability improvements

Equipment Safety

• Support equipment safety assessments and risk reduction initiatives
• Apply knowledge of applicable safety standards, including Safety Category, Safety Integrity Level (SIL), and Performance Level (PL)
• Review equipment designs and project documentation for alignment with established safety requirements
• Support safe equipment operation through identification and resolution of control system and equipment safety concerns
• Support equipment design, installation, commissioning, and implementation activities

Control Systems Engineering

• Design, implement, program, enhance, and support DCS, PLC, and other process control systems in accordance with established standards
• Develop and maintain control system applications, interfaces, historian integrations, and process improvements
• Support control system upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives to improve reliability and performance
• Administer process control networks, including security, backups, data protection, firewalls, servers, and software updates
• Test, troubleshoot, and validate control system implementations, interfaces, version changes, and system functionality

Technical Standards & Support

• Apply established engineering standards and procedures to control system design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Support documentation of control system configurations, technical procedures, system changes, and maintenance activities
• Support capital projects through technical implementation, commissioning, testing, and validation activities
• Support training and knowledge-sharing activities related to control systems, equipment, and operating procedures
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and other technical teams to resolve issues and implement improvements
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or instrumentation engineering or related technical field required
• Less than 2 years of relevant experience, including internships
• Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and resolve complex industrial control systems and equipment issues
• Knowledge of DCS, PLC, HMI, process historian, industrial networks, and control system architecture
• Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and ability to manage or support PSM programs

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in manufacturing and operational areas, including eye and hearing protection, hard hat, and steel-toed footwear
• Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, odors, temperature variations, and industrial conditions
• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling as required by the role
• Extended periods of standing, walking, and working on concrete or uneven surfaces
• Climbing stairs, ladders, platforms, or elevated work areas as required by the role
