Job Title: Process Automation Engineer - Models

General Role Description
Develop, verify, and implement algorithms and transfer functions that define the electro-mechanical operation of industrial machinery, primarily metal rolling mills.
Role Accountabilities
- Develop algorithms and transfer functions for electro-mechanical operations of industrial machinery.
- Verify algorithms via computer simulations and empirical data analysis.
- Design and implement control software using verified algorithms to enable automated control of machinery.
- Provide regular commissioning status reports.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate software modules.
- Support simulations to verify project and HMI requirements.
- Assist client witness testing as needed.
- Recommend improvements to testing procedures.
- Support commissioning activities at client sites.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical (with control automation coursework), computer engineering, materials science, physics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in designing or commissioning process automation/models software in heavy industry.
- Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as C++ and object-oriented programming within the Microsoft environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to build positive working relationships with clients and partners.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~25%), sometimes with short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS degree in physics, materials science, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
- Research experience in mathematical modeling, finite element analysis, or thermodynamics.
- Experience as research assistant, intern, or co-op in related areas.
- Experience designing or maintaining hot/cold rolling control systems or metal processing lines.
- International field engineering experience.
