Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks an Electrical Metrologist within the Metrology Program and Calibration Laboratory to lead calibration setups, develop advanced techniques, and ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025. The role is onsite in Los Alamos, NM, with responsibilities spanning from instrument diagnostics to accreditation support.

• Demonstrated skill in conceptualizing and communicating major elements of calibrations for electrical disciplines.

• Experience resolving measurement issues by conducting research and investigating alternative solutions.
• Experience monitoring instrument performance trends that may require recalibration or servicing.
• Knowledge and experience working to ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to obtain a DOE “Q” Clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to travel domestically occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Perform or manage the setup, calibration, operation, maintenance, and diagnostics of precise and complex electrical equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, calibrators, and counters.
• Develop advanced calibration and/or measurement techniques for new or one‑of‑a‑kind instruments, equipment, and systems via software programming and manual techniques.
• Accurately perform, review, and validate calibration calculations such as uncertainties and Test-Uncertainty-Ratios (TURs).
• Provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of sophisticated scope and complexity.
• Support Calibration Accreditation activities by collecting calibration data and developing, reviewing, validating procedures and/or calculations.
• Work under consultative direction toward predetermined long‑range goals and objectives.
• Perform quality reviews of calibrations performed by other employees.
• Develop in‑depth calibration and/or measurement techniques for new or one‑of‑a‑kind instruments, equipment, and systems.
• Work with minimal direction toward predetermined long‑range goals and objectives.
• Be responsible and accountable for appropriate actions and decision‑making within the assigned area.
• Perform validation and verification of procedures.

We are looking for an Electrical Metrologist in the LANL Metrology Program and Calibration Laboratory (MP&CL). The MP&CL is ISO 17025 accredited and provides traceable calibrations and metrology support to LANL programs and organizations.

Process and Sampling Technician 4 Responsibilities

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of Fluke MetCal and/or MetTeam applications.
• Knowledge of Indysoft or other calibration‑related Laboratory Information Management Systems.

Education Required

Process and Sampling Technician 4: Associate’s degree and 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Process and Sampling Technician 5: Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Clearance Requirements

Position will be cleared to Q level. Selected applicants must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified material. Q clearance requires U.S. citizenship unless in very limited circumstances.
