Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care seeks a Procedural Technologist to support cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures in Cath Lab, IR, and Vascular Lab. You will assist physicians, prepare rooms, manage supplies, and ensure patient safety and accurate imaging and documentation.

Requirements include RCIS or 5+ years in a procedural setting, ACLS after hire, and BLS. On-site, day shift, 40 hours per week, with on-call duties and 30-minute on-site response window.

Qualifications

• RCIS certification or 5+ years in a procedural Cath Lab/IR setting.
• ACLS certification required after hire; BLS required.
• Completion of an accredited health science program (cardiovascular tech, ultrasound, radiologic tech, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Assist with diagnostic/interventional procedures in Cath Lab, IR, and Vascular Lab.
• Prepare room and equipment; inventory management.
• Verify patient identity and collect history.
• Guide patients through exams with clear explanations and empathy.
• Set scanning protocols and imaging parameters.
• Input patient data and images into EMR and PACS.
• Maintain radiation safety and daily procedural area quality checks.

Summary

The Procedural Technologist performs a variety of technical, diagnostic, therapeutic and patient care tasks for patients with cardiovascular disease using radiological and cardiovascular sciences. The Technologist assists credentialed care providers in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures in a range of settings including the Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology Lab, and Vascular Lab.

Responsibilities

• Assists credentialed care providers in performance of diagnostic and interventional procedures such as use of hemodynamic support devices, temporary pacemakers, and diagnostic imaging. Assists physicians with obtaining digital radiographic images of heart, peripheral vessels and any other required structures.
• Ensures room is prepared and stocked for the upcoming procedure. Sets up and prepares suite for upcoming procedures, including sterile trays, catheters, wires, contrast and other supplies needed as guided by the physician. Assists with routine inventory management tasks.
• Verifies patient identification. Interviews patients to collect and document prior medical history.
• Guides patients, some distressed, through their examination, applying subject matter expertise and cultural competency to explain the exam. Sets expectations and calms patient for effective imaging.
• Selects appropriate scanning protocols and imaging parameters using extensive knowledge of human anatomy and pathology.
• Inputs and organizes patient information and diagnostic images in both primary electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) system and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
• Performs daily quality checks for procedural areas. Practices and ensures radiation safety per documented protocol. Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

Qualifications

Hired candidates are expected to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification after hire. Training and assessment opportunities will be provided.

Required

• Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) as administered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or five (5) or more years working in a procedural role in a Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology setting.
• Completion of an accredited educational program in health science, including but not limited to: cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, nursing or paramedic/EMT.
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• The role includes on-call responsibilities and requires the employee to arrive on-site within a 30-minute response window.

Preferred

• Successful completion of EKG / Arrhythmia course.
• Experience working with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) such as SYNAPSE or SECTRA
• Experience working with electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) system such as EPIC.
