Job description

Problem Resolution Specimen Technician - Pittsburgh, PA - Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM (Rotational Weekends)

This position actively works to identify and solve issues related to processing and testing laboratory specimens. The technician demonstrates complete proficiency in all Specimen Tech III duties. Problem Resolution Techs collaborate with Specimen Processing, Referral Testing, and Technical departments to research and resolve issues, thereby expediting specimen testing and result reporting.

Pay Range

Minimum of $20.72+ per hour. Salary offers are based on skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities
  1. Resolve common specimen problems and communicate with internal departments to prevent testing delays or failures.
  2. Contact clients to resolve issues as needed.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency with SOPs related to specimen resolution.
  4. Interpret specimen tracking data using available resources.
  5. Understand policies related to test ordering, reporting, add-on tests, TNPs, reflex tests, and panels.
  6. Prioritize handling of samples with limited stability or issues impacting patient care.
  7. Retrieve specimens from storage, investigate sample adequacy, and research test requirements.
  8. Accurately process TIQs/TNPs and review mislabeled or unlabeled specimens.
  9. Identify and escalate trending problems to management.
  10. Use MS Office tools effectively.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required: At least one year in Specimen Tech III or a related role (internal candidates).

Preferred: Minimum of 3 years lab experience, preferably in production; strong specimen processing background; medical terminology knowledge.
