Job summary

Brookfield Zoo Chicago seeks a Probationary Patrol Officer to serve as a full-time, armed police officer. You will patrol the zoo, enforce park rules, respond to emergencies, and protect life and property while maintaining excellent guest experiences.

The role requires completion of Illinois policing standards, field training, and ongoing safety certifications. The position emphasizes teamwork with the Brookfield Zoo Police Department and security staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or educational equivalent (GED).
• Must obtain Illinois Police Academy training or approved waiver within one year of hire.
• Field Training Officer Program completion.
• Knowledge of civil and criminal statutes and arrest procedures.
• AHA BLS Provider or equivalent within 90 days of hire.
• Valid Fire Owners Identification Card required.
• Valid driver’s license required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Patrol Brookfield Zoo properties and enforce park rules and regulations.
• Operate the dispatch desk and coordinate with units during incidents.
• Provide on-site medical support and activate EMS when required.
• Respond to emergencies and manage safety and security across park facilities.
• Maintain documentation, incident reports, and evidence as required.
• Interact with guests and staff to provide information and assistance.
