Job summary

Missouri Department of Corrections seeks an experienced professional to assist the district office administrator, directing operations in their absence and supervising staff. The role includes recruitment, program supervision for specialized programs, and ensuring quality reports for court and parole processes.

You will engage with judges, law enforcement, and disciplinary staff, promote corrective services, and participate in ongoing safety training.

Qualifications

  • Six or more years of professional probation/parole or corrections experience.
  • Valid vehicle operator's license.
  • Credit hours from an accredited college/university may substitute for up to four years of experience (30 credit hours per one year) – a minimum of two years required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the assistant to the administrator of a district office; directs the office in the supervisor's absence and oversees staff and activities.
  • Provides programmatic supervision for specialized programs (e.g., community sentencing/intensive supervision/electronic monitoring); reviews case materials and reports; advises on report content and accuracy.
  • Conducts investigations/hearings/research; collaborates with judges and law enforcement to enhance probation and parole services; participates in conferences on crime and delinquency issues; exercises discretion within policies.
  • Completes required safety training (firearms, CPR, First Aid) and maintains re-qualification.

  • Serves as the assistant to the administrator of a district office which includes directing the office in the absence of the supervisor; supervises staff and activities of an assigned unit in a moderate-to-large office; participates in recruitment of new Probation and Parole Officers; conducts in-service training for professional staff
  • Provides programmatic supervision for a specialized program such as community sentencing/intensive supervision/electronic monitoring/residential treatment; reviews chronological supervision records/ investigation reports/related casework materials; reviews and evaluates pre-sentence/pre-parole/interstate reports to be submitted to the courts and Parole Board; assists assigned staff with client/offender supervision problems; provides advice and assistance regarding content, completeness, and conformity of reports
  • Conducts special investigations/hearings/research projects/other activities as assigned; confers with judges/judicial and law enforcement officials in promoting the maintenance of adequate probation and parole services; participates in conferences on crime/delinquency/related probation and parole issues; performs work under the direction of an administrative supervisor through conferences and review of records and reports; employee exercises considerable discretion/independent judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilities within established policies and procedures; performs other related work as assigned
  • Successful completion of safety training which may include firearms and defensive tactics, CPR, First Aid, and the ability to re-qualify annually.

Minimum Qualifications

Six or more years of professional experience in adult probation and parole or corrections casework; and possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year – a minimum of two years of the listed experience is required)

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
