Job summary

City of Auburn is seeking two Probation Officers to support the Probation Services Division. You will manage caseloads, perform assessments, and coordinate with treatment facilities to ensure accurate court reporting.

The role includes supervising sentencing alternatives, administering drug tests, and testifying in court as needed. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and 2+ years in probation or related field, with necessary certifications to view sensitive information and work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, behavioral science, law enforcement, or other closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in probation, corrections, court services, criminal justice, social services, or case management.
  • Licenses and trainings required: Washington state driver’s license, complete Correctional Services Academy training within 6 months, complete ORAS End User training within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned caseload and conduct intake, classification, risk/needs assessments, reassessments, and case planning.
  • Outreach to treatment facilities and interventions to ensure accurate reporting to the court.
  • Administer and monitor alternatives to incarceration and other court‑authorized programs.
  • Administer compliance tools such as drug testing and breath tests.
  • Appear and testify in court and present information, assessments, and recommendations to judges and other participants.

The Auburn Municipal Court is looking for two (2) Probation Officers to add to the team! Be a part of the rewarding Probation Services Division of Auburn Municipal Court. As a member of the Probation Services team, you will provide tools, resources, and support to justice-involved individuals while promoting public safety and accountability within the community. The Court has a shared vision of providing trust, innovation, and accessibility to court users, and these values extend to Probation Services. The division uses evidence-based practices and techniques to enforce court orders, promote accountability, and provide meaningful options and resources to clients.

IMPORTANT RECRUITMENT INFORMATION:

The City of Auburn is conducting this recruitment to establish a qualified hiring pool in anticipation of City Council consideration and approval of funding for this position as part of the City’s budget process in September 2026. Candidates may participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection process prior to final budget approval; however, no appointment or offer of employment will be made unless and until the position and associated funding receive all required City approvals. The resulting eligibility/hiring pool may be used to fill this position following approval and may also be used to fill similar vacancies, as appropriate.

In this job, you will:
  • Manage an assigned caseload and conducts intake, classification, risk/needs assessments, reassessments, and case planning consistent with court orders, applicable standards, and departmental procedures.
  • Outreach to treatment facilities and other interventions to ensure accurate reporting to the court.
  • Administer and monitor alternatives to incarceration and other court-authorized programs as assigned, which may include community service, electronic monitoring, day reporting, therapeutic or behavioral programming, and other sentencing alternatives.
  • Administer compliance tools such as drug testing and preliminary breath tests.
  • Appear and testify in court as required; presents case information, documentation, professional assessments, and recommendations to judges, attorneys, and other authorized court participants.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, behavioral science, law enforcement, or other closely related field,
AND
  • Two (2) years of experience in probation, corrections, court services, criminal justice, social services, case management.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid Washington state driver's license without pending risk of loss at time of appointment.
  • Successfully complete the Correctional Services Academy training within six (6) months of employment as required by WAC 139-10-210
  • Successfully complete Ohio Risk Assessment System End User training within six (6) months of employment.

NOTE: This position will be required to be fingerprinted and complete the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Certification Test to be allowed to view sensitive information and have unescorted access while at the Police Department (per Washington State Patrol ACCESS unit).
