Tulsa County's Juvenile Bureau seeks a Probation Counselor to assist adjudicated youths and families, under general supervision, aligning with court policies and guidelines.
The role involves counseling, case management, reporting, and coordination with law enforcement and schools. A four-year degree in sociology or related field is required, with applicable social work experience preferred.

Under general supervision and within the scope of the Courts, division policies and guidelines, aids juveniles that are adjudicated wards of the court and families with personal and environmental difficulties by performing the following duties.
All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.
Skill in recognizing underlying causes of social problems; in counseling an individual concerning personal and family problems; in eliciting pertinent personal information. Knowledge of principles and practices of sociology applicable to juvenile casework; of county and state regulations pertaining to juvenile care; of departmental policies and procedures; and of Title 10A, Oklahoma State Statues, and other laws and regulations relevant to the field of Juvenile Justice. Ability to deal tactfully with others; to express both orally and in writing, facts and opinions clearly and concisely; to establish effective interpersonal relationships; and to create a constructive atmosphere for crisis problem solving.

Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in sociology or closely related field, and over one year satisfactory full time employment in social work, juvenile work or related field.
Three years’ experience as a Probation Counselor with Tulsa County Juvenile Bureau or two years’ experience with a Master’s Degree in sociology or a related field. Other requirements are delineated in the Family Center for Juvenile Justice Level System Policy.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management software, Database software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software and Word processing software.
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s license possessed for at least 6 months. Defensive Driving through Tulsa County within 6 months of hired.
