Responsibilities

  • Manage opening and administration of probate estates from start to finish under attorney supervision.
  • Draft petitions for probate and file them with the court.
  • Notify heirs, creditors, and beneficiaries as required.
  • Gather assets, prepare inventories, appraisals, and accountings.
  • Assist in financial reporting of estates and trusts, including inventories and accounting.
  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, wills, trusts, and related correspondence.
  • Communicate with clients, courts, fiduciaries, and financial institutions with professionalism.
  • Manage deadlines, court filings, and calendars; track statute timelines.

Job description

We are seeking a diligent, organized, and detail-oriented Probate Paralegal to join our Estate Planning & Probate team. The ideal candidate will support our attorneys in all facets of probate estate administration and other matters ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness in serving clients during challenging times. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage opening and administration of probate estates from start to finish under attorney supervision, including:
  • Drafting and filing petitions for probate
  • Notifying heirs, creditors, and beneficiaries
  • Gathering assets, preparing inventories, appraisals, and accountings
  • Assist in the financial reporting of estates and trusts including preparation of inventories and accounting.
  • Drafting correspondence, legal documents, pleadings, wills, trusts, DISCLAIMERS, and other related documents
  • Communicating with clients, courts, fiduciaries, financial institutions, heirs, beneficiaries, etc., with empathy and professionalism
  • Managing deadlines, court filings, and calendaring; tracking various statute of limitations and procedural timelines
  • Coordinating with accountants, appraisers, and financial institutions to assemble required estate information
  • Maintaining organized case files (electronically and in paper), ensuring all requisite documents are collected and properly filed
  • Billing and timekeeping in compliance with firm policies; assisting with client invoicing when needed
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience as a probate or estate administration paralegal (or in a law firm handling probate work)
  • Strong familiarity with Connecticut probate rules, procedures, and court systems
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task among several cases simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain legal documents to clients sensitively
  • Proficiency with legal software / case management tools; comfort using Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
