Job summary

Oakland County Probate Court is seeking a detail-oriented professional to support judges, court staff, attorneys, and the public in daily proceedings. This full-time, on-site role focuses on preparing the courtroom, maintaining order, and ensuring accurate records.

You will operate video conferencing and recording systems, swear in jurors and witnesses, review documents for compliance, and file official records using county software.

Qualifications

• JD degree required or pursuing; eligible to practice law
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required

Responsibilities

• Ensures the courtroom operates efficiently by checking in parties, creating a list of waiting parties, and prioritizing caseflow ensuring all necessary parties are present to proceed.
• Declares the official opening and closing of court sessions and calls cases in court by stating the name and number of the case.
• Assists the judge by administering oaths to jury members and witnesses, schedules hearings, processes adjournment requests, and retrieves legal files and documents.
• Maintains order and decorum in the courtroom among family members, spectators, and respondents by providing guidance in proper courtroom procedures and assisting in the removal of disruptive persons.
• Operates a computer terminal, to enter or retrieve information relative to particular cases and ensures all necessary legal documents are filed.

Education

Juris Doctor (JD) degree

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
