Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care seeks a Vascular Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic vascular ultrasound and non-invasive procedures, ensuring quality and safety per department protocols.

The role requires 2–4 years of related experience, proficiency with Transcranial and abdominal Doppler, and the ability to manage patients with mobility challenges while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree desirable.
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program and RVT certified within 12 months of hire.
  • 2–4 years of related vascular ultrasound experience.
  • Training and experience performing Transcranial Doppler and abdominal Doppler preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and emergency protocols.
  • Knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound and peripheral arterial Doppler systems and follow exam protocols.
  • Ability to work with patients with limited mobility and severe peripheral vascular disease.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic-quality vascular ultrasound and non-invasive vascular procedures.
  • Triage patients by acuity, review orders and indications for exam, and provide relevant clinical history.
  • Submit accurate and complete exam images and data sheets for physician interpretation.
  • Enter data in NextGen and department databases for lab accreditation.
  • Maintain compliance with department policies and procedures and participate in QA activities.
  • Obtain RVT credential and maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Assist with risk management activities and ensure confidentiality of information.
  • Assist with orientation and cross-training of students and staff as needed.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Assist with various projects as assigned by supervisor.

Job description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Vascular Ultrasound Technologist performs basic and complex vascular ultrasound and other non-invasive vascular procedures as defined in department policies and procedures. The incumbent organizes and prioritizes work in accordance with department needs and completes assignments within assigned times.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Consistently performs diagnostic quality vascular ultrasound and other non-invasive vascular procedures utilizing proper technique consistent with department protocols and ultrasound safety practices.
  • Consistently triages patients appropriately according to their acuity level, follows established procedures for patient identification, reviews orders and indications for exam for appropriateness of each exam and provides pertinent clinical history for exams performed.
  • Consistently submits accurate and complete exam images and associated exam worksheets and data sheets, consistent with department protocols, for physician interpretation.
  • Accurately performs all data entry and clerical procedures required by department to insure that completed exams are recorded in NextGen, department Log Book and computer database for laboratory accreditation.
  • Consistently demonstrates compliance with department policies and procedures.
  • Obtains and maintains related (such as RVT) credential and continuing education requirements needed to maintain laboratory accreditation.
  • Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations.
  • Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with complete confidentiality and security.
  • Participates in department meetings, quality control and QI activities.
  • Assists with orientation and cross-training of students and employees as needed, including proctoring.
  • May escape issues to supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary.
  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree desirable.
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program (such as the CAAHEP-approved or CMA-approved ultrasound/vascular training program) and RVT certified in within 12 months of the date of hire.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • 2 - 4 years' related experience.
  • Training and experience performing Transcranial Doppler and abdominal Doppler examinations, preferred.
  • Knowledgeable and complies with safety practices and emergency protocols.
  • Knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge and skills required to operate ultrasound and peripheral arterial Doppler systems.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed exam protocols.
  • Ability to work with patients with limited mobility and severe peripheral vascular disease.
