Qualifications

Job description

Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist facilitates operative or other invasive procedures by preparing and providing sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION

High School diploma or GED required; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist educational program is preferred.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

Previous experience is preferred.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Must be certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). NCCT certification is acceptable. Individuals employed before September 1, 2009, may be grandfathered in without certification, per legislation.

Certified in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Good communication skills, hand-eye coordination, infection control, and aseptic techniques. Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and equipment, and the ability to consult reference manuals. Ability to adapt to the needs of diverse patient populations.
