Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a part-time Speech Language Pathologist for inpatient rehab services at Bell Hospital. The SLP will evaluate, plan, and implement customized interventions to improve cognitive function, swallow safety, and communication for diverse patients.

This role requires collaboration with an interdisciplinary team and adherence to ASHA/KSHA guidelines. Responsibilities include developing treatment plans, documenting progress, and ensuring regulatory

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Communication Disorders or equivalent from an accredited college or university (required).
  • Licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in KS (and MO/other states as applicable) per KS guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform individualized evaluations and design goal-directed interventions to improve cognitive function, swallow safety, and communication.
  • Review patient progress and adjust intervention plan as needed.
  • Maintain clinical documentation in accordance with KSHA, ASHA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Provide supervision or training to rehabilitation staff or students as needed.

Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Speech Language Pathologist - Rehab Services works as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team. They perform an individualized evaluation, design goal-directed customized interventions to improve the patient's cognitive function, swallow safety, and ability to communicate. They periodically review the patient's performance to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills.a) Evaluates patients in clinical area served. Therapist considers all aspects of the patient including the physical, psychosocial, developmental, and cultural needs. Evaluation results are communicated to the physician, family, and other team members in a clear and concise mannerb) Develops and implements treatment plans using appropriate problem-solving skills, and clinical reasoning. The therapist serves as a resource to staff members and students.c) Documentation is clear and concise, and in compliance with departmental, KSHA and ASHA guidelines, and regulatory requirements from third party payers.d) Demonstrates understanding of regulatory requirements as it pertains to the clinical area served.

  • Follows all departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Meets all state requirements for continuing education with the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
  • Demonstrates good rapport with patients and professionalism with other professionals, patients, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates willingness to help out in all areas and recognize the needs of the entire department.
  • May provide supervision for rehabilitation technicians including communication of results of patient evaluation, as well as treatment plan and implementation.
  • May provide educational programs through in-services to the rehab services department or interdisciplinary colleagues, and teaching to the SLP students.
  • May provide student supervision for clinical students, utilizing a wide variety of supervisory styles to enhance student learning.
  • May assist to develop, collect, and analyze performance improvement data.
  • Assumes responsibility for risk and safety issues associated with position.
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Takes responsibility for own learning needs.
  • Participates as a member of a team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Brings ideas/concerns to supervisor.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Master's Degree in Communication Disorders or equivalent from an accredited college or university

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO) - Includes licenses for all other states Kansas licensure as a speech pathologist through the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KSDADS).
