JOB SUMMARY

Works under supervision to perform wound care duties for patients in an inpatient setting.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • 1 year of RN experience; specific requirements may vary by unit or standard of care
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Texas (or BNE Compact State) Nursing Licensure
    • BLS certification from AHA or ARC
    • Wound Ostomy Nurse certification within 3 years of hire

Preferred

  • Additional certifications such as CWOCN, WCC, CWS, or CWCN
JOB DUTIES
  • Perform and document assessments for patients.
  • Develop and implement care plans using critical thinking.
  • Document interventions and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Ensure continuity of care across shifts and upon discharge.
  • Evaluate and modify care plans as needed.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and standards of the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Board.
  • Provide education to patients and families, documenting all educational efforts.
  • Supervise and delegate duties appropriately to unlicensed personnel and new nurses.
  • Take accountability for actions, report errors, and follow up accordingly.
  • Respond effectively to patient and family complaints, utilizing the chain of command.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and complete required modules.
  • Provide community and hospital area education as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
