About the Role

Join the Cleveland Clinic team, where you will work alongside passionate caregivers and provide patient-first healthcare. The J71 Medical Cardiac Step-down Unit is part of Cleveland Clinic's Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute. Since 1995, Cleveland Clinic has been recognized as one of the top hospitals for Cardiology in the country. J71 is one of three Medical Cardiac Stepdown Units caring for a full spectrum of cardiac conditions, including interventional or PCI patients, those with angina, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and arrhythmia patients requiring medical therapy or EPS services such as pacemakers, ICD insertions, ablations, or cardioversion.

Nursing Associate Externs are enrolled in a ten-week program and are required to attend classes. Upon completion, you may be eligible for a Patient Care Nurse Assistant role.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide direct nursing care.
  2. Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  3. Monitor, record, and communicate patients' conditions.
  4. Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  5. Assess and coordinate patients' discharge needs.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Two years of recent related nursing experience for external applicants, or less than two years but post-orientation/90-day probationary period considered with approval for internal applicants, or military RN experience.
  • Critical Care Course or validated OJT for critical care settings.
  • Additional certifications such as NRP, ONS Chemo/Bio, PALS, TNCC/ENPC depending on unit requirements.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Physical and Safety Requirements
  • Full range of body motion, handling, lifting, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Extended standing and walking.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
  • Physical exertion up to 50 pounds occasionally, and 10-25 pounds frequently.
  • Use of personal protective equipment as required.

Work shifts are day/night rotations from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm or 7:00 pm to 7:30 am.
