Overview

Position Summary:

The PRN RN – Coding Integrity Specialist provides as-needed support for ICD-10 coding and MDS recommendations for skilled nursing facility (SNF) admissions. This role requires a strong understanding of MDS processes and CMS regulations to ensure coding accuracy and compliance for Medicare and other payer claims.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review clinical documentation to recommend accurate ICD-10 codes for skilled SNF admissions.
  • Submit timely MDS Coding Recommendation Reports based on supporting documentation and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all recommendations align with CMS coding rules, RAI guidelines, and MDS assessment protocols.
  • Identify and escalate documentation concerns or coding risks to the Director of Coding Integrity.
  • Support occasional training or facility follow-up calls, as needed.
  • Ability to complete MDS reports

Qualifications:

  • Active RN license (required).
  • Strong working knowledge of the MDS and RAI guidelines (required).
  • Experience with ICD-10 coding and Medicare SNF regulations.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in MDS coordination, SNF clinical coding, or related role.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail in a remote, PRN capacity.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and MDS software systems.
