Job Summary
Report and work only under the authority of a state‑registered pharmacist in all activities required to provide optimal patient care. Duties include processing prescription information through the computer system, preparing medication for dispensing, labeling containers, maintaining patient records, supporting inventory management, and ensuring all prescriptions are checked by a pharmacist before release.
Responsibilities
- Prepare all prescription medications for dispensing under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Accurately interpret and process prescription information using the applicable computer system.
- Remove stock bottles from shelves, count and label medication for dispensing.
- Maintain daily patient records and information through the computer and manual systems.
- Maintain prescription records and ensure accuracy.
- Manage medication inventories and pharmacy supplies, including ordering, receiving, unpacking, recording, and storing.
- Conduct inventory of all medication as required.
- File and orderly maintain prescription hard copies, invoices from distributors, and necessary reports.
- Maintain prior authorization information for individual patients and handle third‑party plans.
- Record and maintain refrigerator temperature monitoring logs.
- Demonstrate acceptable oral and written communication skills and courteous telephone operating skills.
- Organize and prioritize work assignments, manage workflow, and assist the pharmacist as necessary.
- Maintain current technician certification by completing all competence/skill assessment testing and attending continuing education programs; provide a true and correct copy of the renewal certificate.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current Pharmacy Technician certification from the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- One to two years of retail pharmacy experience preferred but not required.
Equipment Requirements or Skills
- Computer keyboard knowledgeable and literate (typing 45–50 words per minute).
- Accurate spelling and typing of patient information onto manual and computer records.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Bilingual recommended.
