Job summary

Exceptional Community Hospital – Ardmore, OK seeks a PRN Respiratory Therapist to deliver direct and indirect respiratory care for adult, geriatric, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Position Summary

The PRN Respiratory Therapist provides direct and indirect respiratory care throughout the facility and must be comfortable caring for adult, geriatric, pediatric, and neonatal patients.

The RT must demonstrate strong clinical judgment, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to function effectively with minimal supervision. This position requires the ability to assess patients experiencing respiratory compromise, initiate appropriate interventions within scope of practice, recognize changes in patient condition, and advocate for escalation of care when necessary.

The Respiratory Therapist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team and works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and provide appropriate respiratory care based on clinical findings, physician orders, and established protocols.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to respiratory compromise in adult, geriatric, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) collection as ordered, interpret results within scope of practice, and promptly communicate significant findings.
  • Develop and implement respiratory treatment plans in collaboration with medical staff.
  • Administer inhaled medications, aerosol treatments, therapeutic gases, and other respiratory therapies.
  • Initiate, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilation.
  • Demonstrate familiarity and competency with Hamilton C1.
  • Evaluate patient response to respiratory interventions and advocate for changes to the treatment plan when appropriate.
  • Respond to emergency situations and assist with stabilization and resuscitation of critically ill patients.
  • Maintain current knowledge and competency related to respiratory therapy standards and practices.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Collaborate with nursing and other departments to promote efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
  • Provide appropriate assistance to members of the healthcare team when patient care needs arise.
  • Wear and appropriately utilize the facility radio during every shift to support timely communication and patient care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, EMTALA, facility policies, and established safety procedures.
  • Respect the cultural and religious practices of patients and families.
  • Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for all accepted PRN shifts.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, organized, and patient-ready environment.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned to support patient care and facility operations.
Education & Experience

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department and/or ICU respiratory therapy experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience caring for pediatric patients.
Licensure & Certifications

Required:

  • Current, unencumbered Respiratory Therapist license in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current PALS certification.

Preferred:

  • Current NRP certification.
