Overview
Work in Interventional Radiology with a focus on patient care, safety, and collaboration within the Wellstar Health System. This PRN (as needed) RN role requires independent judgment and the ability to manage diverse clinical tasks in a dynamic environment. Shift: Day (United States of America).
Responsibilities
- Functions under the direction of the Site Manager.
- Perform a wide variety of clinical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative in the use of equipment for diagnosis or treatment.
- Implement the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience.
- Provide patient care with consideration of age-specific needs and psychosocial and educational considerations for patients and families.
- Independently perform job functions.
Clinical Skills
- Complete V-ARU competencies.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure care for invasive, interventional, and surgical procedures.
- Apply critical thinking and care in complex patient situations.
- Prepare and may administer contrast; understand dosing based on patient weight and physician orders.
- Administer conscious sedation per policy; prepare patient for procedures.
- Demonstrate sterile technique and IV administration competence.
- Prepare trays and catheters for procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Be flexible with hours to meet department needs; work scheduled and on-call hours as necessary.
- Communicate effectively, maintain privacy and comfort for patients, and transport patients as needed.
- Maintain departmental records in line with Joint Commission standards and regulatory requirements.
- Complete necessary paperwork and chart reviews; perform QA/QC functions as needed.
- Assist in other Medical Imaging areas and system-wide as needed; ensure current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Understand Scope of Service for Vascular Institute, VARU, and Medical Imaging; participate in inservice/training as appropriate.
- Review cases with physicians; coordinate daily patient schedules; monitor crash carts in assigned areas.
- Meet service and customer guidelines; support total patient care from arrival to imaging results.
Quality and Patient Safety
- Verify patient ID using two identifiers; check chart for similar names; verify orders and seek clarification when unclear.
- Follow preprocedural verification/time-out forms when appropriate; comply with site-side marking.
Patient Education
- Educate patient, family, and support systems; provide post-procedure home care instructions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with Wellstar policies and code of conduct.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Accredited Nursing Program or Bachelor's in Nursing (preferred).
- Licenses & Certifications: RN (single-state) or RN-Compact; BLS (and instructor if applicable); ACLS (and instructor if applicable). All certifications required upon hire unless stated otherwise.
- Experience: ICU/CCU/ER required; Interventional Radiology experience required; Cardiac cath lab experience preferred.
- Skills: English proficiency; strong clinical and critical thinking skills; excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and customer service abilities; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies calmly; proficient in technology and time management.
