Job summary

PRN REGISTERED NURSE-Emergency Department

AS NEEDED Professional Havana, IL, US

Salary Range: $42.00 To $42.00 Hourly

PRN (Per Diem): As needed, variable schedule based on departmental needs and your availability, the expected pay is $42/hr.
Candidates should be available for a mix of day, evening, and/or weekend shifts depending on the role and staffing needs. Flexibility and reliability are key, as schedules may vary.

Primary Function:

The Emergency Department RN will possess a distinct body of knowledge and skill relative to the care of all patients across the lifespan who need medical treatment. Including but not limited to acute life-threatening conditions requiring complex clinical assessment, technologically intense therapies, and interventions. The RN applies specialized nursing knowledge in assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient response to conditions, treatments, and interventions. The RN initiates nursing care, health teaching, and health counseling that supports life and restores well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all Mason District Hospital policies/procedures.
  • Performs all responsibilities and duties required as specific to the Emergency Department Scope of Service.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of patient assessment findings and psychosocial responses to nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team
  • Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
  • Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation of patient needs.
  • Owns responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
  • Identify their own learning needs and take initiative to find appropriate solutions.
  • Is responsible for patient and staff safety through appropriate nursing interventions, adhering to safety standards and correcting/reporting safety hazards.
  • Effectively communicates/collaborates with staff, visitors, and families to promote a healthy and healing work environment.
  • Conducts individualized patient triage and assessment, prioritizing the collection of data based on individual needs and conditions.
  • Conducts ongoing nursing assessment as dictated by the patient's condition and in accordance with evidence-based gold standard of care.
  • Performs ongoing patient assessment and develops care plan in collaboration with other team members, providers, family and patient in the development, implementation, and evaluation of an individualized plan of care.
  • Provides individualized patient and family teaching.
  • Performs appropriate treatments and therapies as ordered by the physician in a proper and timely fashion.
  • Performs hemodynamic monitoring as appropriately ordered by physician.
  • Initiates emergency measures according to adult and pediatric advanced resuscitation protocols.
  • Maintains confidentiality related to patient, family, client facility, and staff in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness to preserve autonomy, rights, and dignity.
  • Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.
  • Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
  • Works directly with the physician, assisting during exams, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
  • Prepares, administers, and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medication by a licensed RN.
  • Teaches patients, family, and caregivers how to manage the illness/injury by explaining post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provide referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment. Prior to patient disposition.
  • Proficiency with IV therapy
  • Advocates for patients' rights concerning advanced directives and organ donation.
  • Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift and as needed based on individualized patient assessment.
  • Maintains competency in emergency care by participating in continuing education programs and meets state-specific requirements.
  • Demonstrates ability to delegate effectively and appropriately.

  • Must be able to perform basic computer proficiency
  • Must be punctual and dependable when arriving for assigned shifts.
