Job summary

The Riverside Health System in Smithfield, Virginia is seeking a qualified Physical Therapist Assistant to implement an individualized therapy program for patients with acute and chronic conditions, aimed at maximizing quality of life and functional goals.

You will follow plans of care, perform PTA procedures, assess patient needs, train team members, document progress, and educate patients on interventions; Virginia licensure is required upon hire and CPR/BLS within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant or CAPTE-accredited program.
• Pursue VA PTA license upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support all team members, volunteers and students.

• Provide patient education on interventions.

Overview

A staff Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) carries out an individualized program for patient with acute and chronic health conditions to maximize their quality of life and achieve their functional goals. The PTA will also maintain a positive working relationship with other health professionals and ancillary staff.

What you will do

• Follows the plan of care and performs PTA procedures as allowed by referral to aid in restoring function, improving mobility, relieving pain, and preventing or limiting permanent physical disabilities. Perform services planned, delegated and supervised by the Therapist.
• Assesses patients’ needs and status by analyzing evaluated data and interprets information, identifying age-specific needs and proving care accordingly.
• Assists and participates in the training and support of all team members, volunteers and students.
• Records patients’ progress and reports the results of each treatment to the physical therapist.
• Treats patients through exercise, massage, gait and balance training, and other therapeutic interventions.
• Provides patient education on interventions.

Qualifications

Education

• Associates Degree, Physical Therapy Assistant (Required) or
• Program Graduate, Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) (Required)

Experience

• 1 year Healthcare experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• License Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required) and
• CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)
