Description :
Provides patient care using physical agents and therapeutic exercise upon referral by and under guidance of a qualified physician. Work is performed with considerable independence within policy and program guidelines. Provides ongoing physical therapy to patients of diverse ages and their families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Demonstrates professional, appropriate, effective, and tactful communication with patients, families, medical staff, colleagues, vendors, and other departments to promote continuity of care and enhance hospital image.
- Provides positive professional customer service in all patient, staff, and visitor interactions.
- Uses interpersonal skills to establish and maintain healthy relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times, following HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
- Participates in staff development activities and orientation as requested.
- Acts as a patient advocate, responding to and resolving patient concerns.
- Is CPR certified.
- Follows equipment maintenance protocols, identifies problems, and coordinates repairs.
- Operates office machines (fax, copier, phone, computer).
- Works effectively as part of the hospital team.
- Licensed Physical Therapist :
- Performs evaluations and treatments for a diverse population in various settings, completing documentation according to hospital policy.
- Establishes and reviews care plans, goals, and priorities with the team, including patient and family, adjusting treatment as needed, and planning discharge and follow-up care.
- Complies with ethical, legal, and supervisory guidelines, demonstrating professional accountability per the APTA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
- Communicates effectively with team members throughout the continuum of care.
- Communicates with referring physicians regarding treatment plans, progress, and outcomes.
- Maintains current knowledge of payor regulations and adheres to guidelines.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- Certificate, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in physical therapy.
- In-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to various conditions.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Iowa.
- Previous work experience is not required.
- Knowledge of current physical therapy principles and approvals.
- Obtain CPR certification within six months of hire.
