EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- If licensed as a Technician in Training, must complete an Indiana State Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacy technician course within 1 year of employment.
- Ability to read, write, compute, comprehend, and implement written and verbal instructions.
- Meet hospital annual education requirements and attend department meetings to stay informed on current issues.
- Good physical and mental health, with a professional demeanor.
- Ability to learn, adapt, and grow as pharmacy and healthcare fields evolve.
- Follow supervision of the pharmacist in charge and interact constructively with other departments.
- Deal professionally and tactfully with the public.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Check refrigerator temperature daily and document it.
- Refill Pyxis units daily and as needed based on stock-out reports.
- Check in new drug and IV inventory.
- Restock IV fluids, tubings, and irrigation fluids.
- Verify cost and NDC of received items.
- Document pharmacy usage and destruction accurately.
- Fulfill requisitions from other departments.
- Package and prepare unit dose labels and packaging.
- Monthly check for expired medications in the pharmacy.
- Monthly medication inspections in patient care areas.
- Weekly cleaning of IV and chemotherapy rooms, plus general cleaning.
- Order supplies or medications from wholesalers or manufacturers.
- Compound IV fluids and chemotherapy as needed.
- Calculate dosages accurately.
- Assist in managing drug stock, including shelving, organizing, and documentation.
- Help maintain appropriate inventory levels in a cost-effective manner.
- Assist pharmacists with managing incoming calls and triage.
- Deliver medications to patient care areas promptly.
- Package dry orals, liquid orals, and small volume injectables in unit-of-use containers using mechanical and manual methods.
