Acts as a courier between the Pharmacy Department and Nursing Units; delivering medication, supplies, devices and picking up orders. Restocks, organizes and inventories medications and supplies throughout the facility. Ensures medications are stored properly and checks expiration dates on the nursing units.
Enters medication orders and resident information to update the resident medication profile computer database. Enters all required information for new admissions including patient information and drug orders. Fills medication orders/reorders for residents. Performs proper charges and credits for medications, supplies and devices.
Knows how to generate packing lists and filling lists. Refills medication cart supply from fill list.
Performs manual cart exchanges every two weeks for each of the 3 nursing units.
Prepares and packages medication. Maintains log for repackaging medications.
Maintains STAT box, emergency box, and IV start box medications.
Places orders with wholesalers and manufacturers and processes items received to assure correct product, quantity, price, proper storage and check expiration date. Returns to wholesaler or manufacturer all recalled, out of date or overstocked medications. Ensures medications are stored properly and checks/maintains expiration dates in the pharmacy.
Reviews, sorts, and files a variety of materials, including confidential information. Maintains departmental records, files, notebooks and references. Handles departmental mail and correspondence. Greets visitors and receives incoming telephone calls, screening them and making appropriate referrals to staff or departments. Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within the Pharmacy department's mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility.
Nursing Unit and Med cart inspections as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
