Job description

As a PRN Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you are responsible for performing diagnostic tests by preparing and administering radioactive drugs (radiopharmaceuticals) to patients, and using high-level imaging equipment to record images of the radioactive material in the body. This includes Nuclear Medicine examinations and/or Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and PET/CT examinations. The Technologist ensures correct nuclear examinations while maintaining a safe radioactive environment, documenting activities related to radiopharmaceutical administration and radiation exposure in accordance with laws and policies. The role requires flexibility as a per-diem technologist, responding promptly to coverage requests and covering at least one shift in a 30-day period.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer ionizing radiation with radiopharmaceuticals to obtain diagnostic exams as ordered by physicians, exercising judgment and discretion, and possibly administering non-narcotic medications for effective imaging.
  • Demonstrate competency in radiopharmaceutical administration, including starting and discontinuing peripheral IVs and administering through other vascular access points such as ports, CVLs, and PICC lines if indicated.
  • Utilize safe techniques, including protective shielding, and maintain records of radioactive sources in compliance with regulations.
  • Operate Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT equipment competently.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and radiologists, and train new technologists and patient coordinators as needed.
  • Maintain quality standards, complete ongoing education, and ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Proficiency in EMR, PACS, and DICOM systems.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • NMTCB or ARRT certification.
  • State license if applicable.
  • CPR/BLS certification; ACLS where applicable.
  • Ability to work at multiple locations and travel locally.
  • Organizational, multitasking, and critical thinking skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years in Nuclear Medicine procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exposure to weather, magnetic fields, blood, and body fluids.
  • Majority of time sitting, standing, walking; some stooping, kneeling, climbing, lifting.
