Job summary

UMMS Providers/Physicians is seeking a per diem Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work at the Serpick Infusion Center in Towson, Maryland. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree, relevant certifications, and experience in oncology. Qualifications

  • Ability to assess data reflective of patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties including chemotherapy and hydration administration.
  • Ensure patient safety and participate in patient safety initiatives.
  • Take action to correct observed risks to patient safety.

Job Description

This is a per diem position working at our Serpick Infusion Center In Towson, Maryland. This position is open to Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants, oncology experience preferred.

University of Maryland Medical Center Serpick Infusion Center is located within a beautiful, two-story glass atrium that looks onto a peaceful garden and features 18 custom infusion chairs that were designed with patient comfort in mind.

Infusion services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Port flushes
  • Chemotherapy administration
  • Immunotherapy administration
  • Hydration
  • Growth Factor administration
  • Antiemetic and immune globulin therapies
  • Intramuscular and subcutaneous injections
  • Blood product administration
  • IV iron administration

Hours :Monday-Friday: 7:30 am-5:30 pm

Qualifications:
Qualifications

  1. Master of Science Degree with completion of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Certified in area of specialty. (DEA and CDS eligible).
  2. CPR required
  3. ACLS/BCLS as required for inpatient work.
  4. A minimum of one (1) year experience as a Registered Nurse is required.
  5. Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty.
  6. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  7. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters. Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills.
  8. Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training.
  9. Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area.

Working Conditions

  1. Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call and overtime may be required.
  2. There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious diseases in the work environment; requires observance of "Universal Precautions" by wearing gloves, goggles, and mask, is required.

Patient Safety

Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.

  1. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  2. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  3. Implements policies, procedure, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
  4. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members.
  5. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
