Job Summary:

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) administers occupational therapy to patients in their homes on an intermittent basis, following physician orders and the plan of care under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist and Director of Therapy, Home Health.

Responsibilities:

• Adhere to agency policies and procedures.
• Assist patients in improving or minimizing residual disabilities.
• Help patients achieve optimal and productive levels within their capabilities.
• Participate in patient care planning with healthcare team members.
• Perform skilled procedures as ordered by the physician and according to the established plan of care.
• Consult with OT regarding treatment changes.
• Instruct patients and families in home programs and exercises.
• Participate in in-service education and present programs as assigned.
• Engage in performance improvement activities.
• Attend scheduled patient care conferences.
• Prepare and update medical records and care plans promptly.
• Perform services delegated and supervised by the OT.
• Assist in documenting clinical and progress notes.
• Educate patients and families about treatment plans.

Working Environment:

Works indoors at agency office and patient homes; travels between locations.

Job Relationships:

Supervised by OT/Director of Therapy, Home Health.

Risk Exposure:

High risk.

Requirements:

• Meet certification requirements established by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
• Maintain certification through AOTA.
• Be currently certified in practicing states.
• Preferred: Two (2) years of experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to participate in physical activities.
• Work for extended periods standing and involved in physical tasks.
• Moderate lifting capacity.
• Ability to perform extensive bending, lifting, and standing regularly.
