Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD in Houston is seeking a Mental Wellness Advocate and Care Specialist serving as a Psychiatric Technician Relief/PRN to provide direct care and support within a licensed treatment team.

You will assist with daily living activities, participate in rounds, monitor behaviors, document progress, and help maintain a trauma-informed, safe environment while coordinating care with nurses and clinicians.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of direct care in psychiatric/behavioral health preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of Standard Precautions and Infection Control.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe environment through rounds and patient monitoring.
• Assist with basic patient care including eating, bathing, and dressing.
• Provide behavioral emergency assistance and report concerning behaviors.
• Monitor and document patient behavior in seclusion or on precautions.
• Assist with scheduling and training of other staff.
• Maintain communication between staff regarding patient needs.
