Qualifications

• Education: Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP BOC or equivalent. If not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
• Medical Laboratory Technician II requires at least one year of clinical experience and ASCP BOC certification; internal candidates must meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements; external candidates must complete requirements within 90 days in position.
• Medical Laboratory Technician III requires at least three years of clinical experience and ASCP BOC certification; internal candidates must meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements; external candidates must complete requirements within 6 months in position.
• Medical Technologist I requires a BS in Medical Technology or related field and ASCP BOC certification or equivalent; certification must be obtained within the first year if not certified.
• Medical Technologist II requires BS and at least one year of clinical experience; ASCP BOC certification or relevant categorical certification required; internal candidates must meet ICCE Career Ladder requirements; external candidates must complete within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Supports high quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory.
• Prepares specimens for testing and performs routine laboratory tests.
• Performs quality control and maintenance procedures on instruments.
• Recognizes and troubleshoots computer data problems and laboratory instruments.
• Communicates technical information to medical and lay persons.
• Assists with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures and participates in continuing education.
• Interprets and reports test results accurately and timely.
