Trinity Health's MercyOne Des Moines site is seeking a part-time Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments. You will perform venipunctures and specimen handling while maintaining data integrity in the LIS.

The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and patient-centered care in a hospital setting. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, comfort with lab terminology, and strong computer skills.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks as age-appropriate.
• Accept specimens and requisitions and manage add-on orders and pending lists.
• Identify patients and specimens using two identifiers and label correctly.
• Register and log specimens in LIS and ensure data accuracy.
• Perform specimen processing and documentation per lab protocols.
• Assist in resolving problematic specimens and orders with staff.
• Follow safety and infection-control procedures to ensure quality testing.
• Operate LIS and support accurate data entry and workflow.
• Restock supplies and participate in department projects as assigned.
