Job summary

Ashe Memorial Hospital in West Jefferson, NC is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Imaging Department for PRN Day shifts. The role delivers patient-centered nursing care before, during and after diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures.

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure in North Carolina.
• CPR/BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS within orientation period.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing imaging procedures.
• Prepare and educate patients for procedures including stress testing and biopsies.
• Assist physicians and radiology staff with procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, and biopsies.
• Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures; respond to changes.
• Administer medications including IV contrast per protocol.
• Establish and maintain IV access; assist with PICC line placement as appropriate.
• Coordinate care with physicians, technologists and interdisciplinary team members.
• Ensure compliance with safety, infection control and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation.

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Imaging Department provides patient-centered nursing care before, during, and after diagnostic and interventional procedures. This role is essential in ensuring patient safety, procedural efficiency, and high-quality outcomes across a variety of imaging services.

Position Details

• Employment Type: PRN (as needed)
• Shift: Day Shift (1st shift; schedule varies)

• Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures
• Prepare and educate patients for procedures, including cardiac stress testing and biopsies
• Assist physicians and radiology staff with procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, and biopsies
• Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures, responding promptly to changes
• Administer medications, including IV contrast, in accordance with established protocols
• Establish and maintain IV access; assist with or perform PICC line placement as appropriate
• Coordinate care with physicians, technologists, and interdisciplinary team members
• Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) – required within one (1) month of hire
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required within orientation period
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required within orientation period
• Experience: Imaging, procedural, or outpatient nursing experience preferred; cardiac stress testing experience is a plus
