Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking a Histotechnician to prepare tissue specimens by sectioning, staining and mounting for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. The role supports the Pathologist with examinations on submitted tissues and preparations, following CLIA '88 guidelines.

The position includes quality control, QA, maintenance and troubleshooting, with possible clerical tasks and specimen collection as needed to support laboratory services.

Qualifications

• Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program (within the last five years if not ASCP certified) or Associate degree that includes 12 hours in biology and chemistry.
• OR at least 60 semester hours, including 12 hours biology and 12 hours chemistry.
• 1 year of documented clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last five years.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens by sectioning, staining and mounting for microscopic examination by the Pathologist.
• Assist Pathologist with examinations on submitted tissue specimens and preparations.
• Perform quality control, quality assurance, maintenance and troubleshooting per CLIA '88 guidelines.
• May assist with clerical tasks, specimen collection and related laboratory services.

Minimum Requirements

• Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program (within the last five years if not ASCP certified) OR Associate degree that includes 12 hours
• in both biology and chemistry
• OR
• At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at minimum, includes 12 semester hours of both biology and chemistry and
• 1 year of documented clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last five years
• Once eligible, must obtain HT certification within 1 year
