UT Health San Antonio is seeking a PRN Histology Technician to support outpatient surgical and procedural operations. The role involves preparing tissue specimens, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining to aid in patient diagnoses.
Work is performed under supervision with flexibility for variable shifts and coverage needs. Ideal candidates have histology experience, the ability to handle microscopes and embedding equipment, and ASCP Medical Technologist certification.
The PRN Histology Technician provides histology services as needed to support outpatient surgical and procedural operations. Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in confirming patient diagnoses, including processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining surgical and biopsy specimens. Work is performed in accordance with established laboratory protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The PRN Histology Technician supports laboratory needs based on variable scheduling, specimen volume, and operational demand. Work is performed under the supervision of laboratory or departmental leadership and requires flexibility to work variable shifts based on outpatient surgical schedules and coverage needs.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Minimum of three (3) years of histology experience is preferred.
Experience processing surgical and biopsy specimens in a clinical or outpatient setting is preferred.
PRN, per diem, or contract experience is preferred.
ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathology Medical Technologist required.
