Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Histologic Technician II for the Anatomic Pathology section at the Winston Campus. This PRN role focuses on embedding and microtomy to support surgical pathology services.

Ideal candidates have an Associate degree in applied science or equivalent training, with ASCP NSH standards in mind, and three years of histology lab experience preferred. HT (ASCP) certification is a plus. Join a dedicated team within a leading regional health system.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent with two years training as defined by ASCP/NSH.
• Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
• HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to hospital standards and promotes a cooperative work environment through communication, interpersonal relations and teamwork.
• Ensures accurate and timely accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens.
• Ensures accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens.
• Provides maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens.
• Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
• Performs additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures.
• Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
• Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
• Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
• Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.

Education

Associate's degree in applied science

High school diploma/GED with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the National Society of Histotechnology

HT (ASCP) certification preferred
