Job summary

SRMC Summersville Regional Medical Center in Summersville, WV, seeks a patient care assistant to support nursing staff by providing direct patient care under RN supervision, ensuring effective communication within the care team.

You will perform activities of daily living, document in the EMR, handle clerical tasks, protect patient privacy, and maintain equipment, in a fast-paced hospital setting. This on-site role is non-exempt.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire is required.
  • One year of patient care assistant or clerical experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct patient care as assigned under RN supervision.
  • Reports all pertinent observations to the nurse.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living.
  • Documents in the Electronic Medical Record per policy.
  • Performs clerical tasks (computer, copier, fax, phones).
  • Maintains patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates daily competency in required technical skills.
  • Answers call bells per hospital standards.

Job description

Assists with directing the flow of activities within the nursing unit. Maintains optimal communication between members of the Health Care Team and assists in providing direct patient care in compliance with established competencies, policies/procedures and standards while under the supervision of a registered nurse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** :**

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. High school graduate/equivalent.

  2. BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. One (1) year of patient care assistant experience and or clerical experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** :**

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. Post high school business or secretarial or computer training.

  2. Medical terminology knowledge.

  3. Notary Public for the State of West Virginia or obtain within 6 months of hire date and keep it up-to-date.
