Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited dental hygienist program required.
• Active Idaho dental hygienist license required.
• BLS certification required.
• Must be able to secure credentialing through identified agencies.
• Effective oral and written communication skills required.
• 1 year of work experience as a dental hygienist preferred.
• Previous experience working with under-served population preferred.

Responsibilities

• Remove tartar, stains, and plaque from teeth.
• Perform scaling, root planing, and selective polishing for patients as diagnosed by dentist.
• Apply and administer local anesthetic agents as needed.
• Administer fluoride treatment as needed.
• Apply sealants to help protect teeth.
• Take diagnostic x-rays to determine extent of decay and disease.
• Document treatment plans and existing restorations as diagnosed by dentist.
• Update medical history highlighting significant information for dentist's review.
• Instruct patients on oral hygiene techniques and provide education.
• Maintain infection control procedures and equipment.
• Assist in maintaining instruments and equipment.
• Ensure accurate patient documentation including health history and consent forms.
• Assist Dental Sterilization Technician, Dental Assistants, and Dentists as needed.
• Coordinate with patient’s medical providers as part of interdisciplinary team.
• Comply with Heritage Health policies, OSHA, HIPAA, and state regulations.
• Attend required meetings and in-services.
• Promote positive interpersonal relationships with staff, dentists, and patients.
• Able to assist the dentist with anesthesia.
• Demonstrate leadership and teamwork.
• Maintain regular attendance as an essential function.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
