This job involves administering anesthesia to patients during surgical, obstetrical, and other pain-inducing procedures under the supervision of a physician. The role works within a collaborative team including residents, fellows, attendings, and staff caring for patients.

Education

Required – Master’s degree from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).

Work Experience

Required – None.

Certifications

Required – License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Proficiency with Windows applications and keyboard.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to present information clearly to various individuals involved in patient care.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7 availability, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.

Job Duties

• Document patient procedures and incidents.
• Assess patients before, during, and after anesthesia administration.
• Ensure patient safety and administer anesthesia following accepted practices.
• Act as a liaison among surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families.
• Participate in quality assurance and professional development activities.
• Adapt communication and behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and obtaining permissions.
• Perform other related duties as required.
